AI Creative Technologist

Frank Nanninga

I make things with AI that people actually use.

I’m Frank Nanninga, an AI Creative Technologist from the Netherlands. I come up with ideas and use AI to turn them into things you can use, hear, read or play: an app that knows which terrace is in the sun, an AI artist with an album on vinyl, an AI podcast, a book by three generations and an island you ride around on a yellow fixie.

What I do

As an AI Creative Technologist I work between the idea and the technology. I come up with the concept, I direct AI as a creative team for text, images, voices, music, 3D and code, and I pick and steer until it’s done.

What I make has to work in the real world: an app people open every day, an album released on vinyl, a book you can buy in a shop.

An automatic AI podcast I made in collaboration with Tonny Media. I generated the stories and the voices with AI, locally on my own hardware: 35 episodes, from December 2023 to January 2024.

Book · three generations

De Revolutie van de Kabouters

My grandfather Willem Nanninga started this book (“The Gnomes’ Revolution”) on his typewriter some fifty years ago. My aunt Wilma wrote the ending he had in mind. I wrote the middle part with AI as my co-author, steered towards my grandfather’s voice, and made the illustrations. Hardcover, 147 pages, in Dutch, BoekenGilde, 2025.

The Frankly.land island with the big letters on the square

Website · 3D

Frankly.land

This site: a 3D island where you ride a yellow fixie past my work. It sits in the real Amsterdam sun, the seasons follow the calendar, and there are 40 coffee beans, a night market and four hidden gnomes. Made together with AI: the world, the 3D models and the code.
